This page will show you what to look out for in a fake email.

What to do if you suspect an email is a scam

  • Do not click on any links at all

  • Delete the email - note that it will go into your deleted mailbox

  • Delete the email from your deleted mailbox to prevent accidental opening later

  • Never send money to anyone based on information in an email without double checking

  • Never click on a link in an email asking you to confirm your account.

  • Your bank will never ask you to confirm your account or login details by email

You should take these steps if ...

  • your Security program flags the email as a virus

  • the email is from someone you do not normally get emails from

  • you get an email saying a friend is in a foreign country and has lost their money

  • you get an email from your bank asking you to confirm your login or anything similar

  • you have not just reset your Email or account password but you get a message telling you about a password change

  • charity request emails are often not legitimate, especially if you have never subcribed to the charity before
